Redrawing the boundaries of mainstream pop
Japanese rock band Mrs. GREEN APPLE released their 16-track sixth album, POPS, on September 30 via EMI Records / Universal Music Japan. The Phase 3 release explores mainstream pop across a borderless music landscape.
Instead of sticking to one genre, Mrs. GREEN APPLE, Motoki Ohmori, Hiloto Wakai, and Ryoka Fujisawa embrace musical variety in POPS. The album spans pop, rock, electronic elements, and theatrical composition while keeping the band’s signature style.
The expansive tracklist brings together established favorites including “GOOD DAY,” “Wind and Town,” “Carrying Happiness,” and “Summer Shadow,” while introducing new dimensions to their sound.
The album expands their screen media presence, featuring “lulu.” as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2’s opening theme and “Brand New” as the official Japanese theme for Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
A record-breaking run beyond Japan
POPS arrives after a period of extraordinary momentum for the trio. Earlier this year, Mrs. GREEN APPLE ranked No. 13 on the IFPI Global Artist Chart, making them the highest-charting Japanese act of the year.
At home, the group has surpassed 18 billion total streams, with 34 individual tracks crossing the 100-million-stream mark. Their dominance was further cemented by three consecutive Japan Record Awards, making them the only band in history to achieve the feat.
Their global presence expanded during the Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Meanwhile, “Team MGA” won five trophies and its second consecutive Best Artist award at MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026.
Taking Phase 3 to the stage
The trio’s growing scale has been equally evident live. Their recent “ZENJIN MITO TO IM/MUTABLE” stadium run drew 390,000 fans across six performances, including four historic nights at MUFG Stadium (Japan National Stadium).
Another 250,000 viewers followed the tour finale through livestreams, karaoke watch parties, and screenings at more than 360 cinemas across Japan. The experience also extended across Asia, with simultaneous theater broadcasts in South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Thailand.
Now, POPS enters its next chapter on the road. Mrs. GREEN APPLE will embark on the Ringo Jam Tour “SHADOWS,” their first nationwide arena tour in approximately three years, with 28 performances spanning 13 Japanese cities.
