The risk-taking dreamer
Recently, Emilio Daez made a dream come true.
In a sports-romance coming-of-age series that premiered last June, Emilio made his debut as a leading man, playing a basketball team captain who gets kicked out of the lineup after an on-court scuffle. Intent on keeping his athletic scholarship, he tries out for the only available opening: a spot in his school’s struggling volleyball team.
Emilio is astounded by the changes. Last year saw him play supporting roles and become the internet’s ‘golden retriever boyfriend,’ with social media loving his fun, energetic, and positive personality. 2025 brought in his first lead role, more hosting gigs and endorsements, and his memorable stint at Pinoy Big Brother (PBB).
It’s a remarkable transformation, especially since it all began with a leap of faith.
Emilio’s life before entertainment was geared toward business and crunching numbers. In college, he took an honors course focusing on management and finance, and he dabbled in internships that taught him the ropes of operations, logistics, marketing, and corporate planning. Emilio also founded his own company amid the pandemic, supplying safety shoes to construction companies in the Philippines.
It was while he was working as an investment banker that the call of the spotlight grew louder.
“Risk appetite is something that I always think about whenever I talk about shifting. And at that time, my biggest what-if was: ‘what if I entered the entertainment industry?’ It was always at the back of my mind, and I got to answer that question by jumping full-time and quitting my banking job. A year after, all these opportunities happened, and I couldn’t ask for a better outcome,” he shares.
You can see the effects of that shift in how Emilio carries himself—something that he elevated tenfold when he stepped on set for his VMAN Southeast Asia digital cover shoot. Clad in a sleek, tailored ensemble, Emilio locked in and exuded effortless confidence. He could have left the set and hopped to a boardroom meeting next door, and nobody would have batted an eyelash. He radiated the aura of a man who meant serious business.
In a way, the shoot seemed like an indirect realization of another dream: becoming a president or CEO, because Emilio certainly looked and dressed the part.
He’s always spoken in detail how his corporate days, wildly different as it is from entertainment, sharpened his focus and tested his grit—values that are well translatable within show business. And in both cases, a well-fitting suit does serve a purpose; sartorial armor that prepares you for battle, so to speak.
Focus on the goal
But there’s more to Emilio’s shift in aura beyond his fulfilled dream and the occasional tailored fit. His brief stay at the PBB house transformed him from within, changing him in ways that he never expected.
Self-reflection, meditation, and prayer have now become major parts of his daily routine. “Inside, there are so many things out of your control, but one thing you do get to so is how you think. So, I was able to practice deep self-reflection, because there were no distractions, and we were completely isolated from the outside world,” he shares.
Living hour to hour with the housemates made everything a little bit more emotional and contemplative, he recalls. “You get to give your full attention to yourself and the housemates, and that’s what makes our bond so special.” It’s one of those things that Emilio claims one can only fully explain by experiencing it.
Isolated as they were, Emilio knew coming into the show that there will be millions of eyes following their every move. “My mindset was to not think of that, because the whole point of entering the house was to show who I am,” he emphasizes.
“My goal was to go out there 100%, no matter the consequences, because I truly believe that the values that I was raised with and taught to show are things to be proud of. I didn’t feel the need to change anything, and I’m happy with what I showed in the house.”
His support system—the wellspring of these said values—is astounding: there’s his older brother, a seasoned actor and model in the Philippines. “Mikael is my biggest confidante; I go to him for everything. He always reminds me to focus on the work, block out the noise, and just dial in on that one thing I’m doing, taking it one step at a time.”
“The special people in my life also tell me these, though in different ways: be kind, and always work on your craft,” he adds, citing his managers and mentors in the industry. “I take these to heart and embody them every day.”
These reflections were all coming together in Emilio’s mind throughout his stay in the house, and especially when he got evicted from the house along with fellow actor and duo Michael Sager. “It was a mix of emotions. Of course, I was sad to leave but again, I had no regrets. Michael and I knew we gave it our all.”
Emilio’s thoughts would only get validated as he saw and heard for the first time how much love and dedication his fans poured over the past few weeks. “It was my first time seeing my name and face printed on huge boards! Of course, inside the house, I had no inkling of how people saw me. So, the fans really motivated me to work even harder and continue the fight outside the house.”

Friends who feel like family
Emilio’s laser focus toward authenticity and personal goals resonated with his housemates, most especially with Michael. The connections built through shared values, Emilio says, go a long way—especially in a competitive field like show business.
“We all need friends, be it in school, in corporate, or the entertainment industry. And it’s better if they’re friends that you share goals with. Michael and I have the same dream: we both want to be leading men,” he says.
“I believe that if you surround yourself with people who have similar interests, you can better motivate each other to aim higher. I think that’s why Michael and I get along so well because we have the same values. We just clicked.”
Emilio extends this sense of camaraderie toward the rest of the cast. “I am grateful for the new friends that I gained through PBB. It’s like coming to a new school: when you’re new to the industry, it’s not easy to form these bonds. I’m just grateful to live with the housemates and establish a solid relationship with them.”
At their latest fan convention and concert, which packed an entire coliseum of passionate fans, he recalls coming to a bittersweet realization: that it might take a while for all of them to get back and perform together like this, given how everyone’s busy crushing their own goals and making new dreams. Regardless, Emilio beams with pride.
“I’m proud of all the housemates. I’ve made my best memories with them.”
A braver dreamer
Currently, Emilio’s living the life of his dreams. New friends in the industry. Major brand endorsements. A magazine cover. Landing on best-dressed lists. A leading man role, which Emilio hopes would open the doors for more (and more opportunities to compete with Michael, he jokes).
“Now is the time to enjoy, but it’s also the moment to treat my work with more respect; to work harder, and to be kinder,” he assures.
Emilio’s now suiting up for the big leagues, and he’s more than focused to fulfill even more dreams, even if they involve bigger risks.
