Will Skinny Jeans Make a Comeback this 2025?
VMAN Southeast Asia’s fashion associate weighs in on the debate
Revival or rejection?
At the VMAN Southeast Asia launch party in Manila, we asked several guests what they think the next big fashion trend is. One particular answer caused a stir in the comments section of that TikTok interview—that skinny jeans will make a comeback.
It’s been quite some time since the global digital sphere has been debating whether the polarizing fit will return—or, at least, if less baggier fits will fall out of fashion in favor of straight or tapered cuts. The reaction though toward skinny jeans isn’t unlike how people rolled their eyes at baggy jeans before it became trendy again. This only goes to show one thing: the best way to stay on trend? Keep an open mind.
Despite the seemingly negative thoughts people have about skinny jeans, there have been some who looked at it as a challenge—how then can we style a pair and showcase it in the mainstream to cement its place in contemporary style? And in recent shows, it’s also undeniable that there’s a slight shift toward narrower fits for trousers. Just take a look at the collections of Junya Watanabe for Spring/Summer ’25.
If you can’t do a tighter fit, then look at straight-cut jeans, like what Loewe had for Spring/Summer ’25. It’s not the skinniest, but it’s definitely a size down from the baggy silhouettes that have dominated the style scene for many seasons now.
So what’s the deal here? Whether slimmer cuts will continue to grow or die off as a fad—and perhaps only to get revived again—it’s best to keep them on hand for now. Try styling them once in a while, and it might just give you a new perspective on these hotly debated silhouettes. And hey, if it works for you, it works—isn’t that the best style to rock, trending or not?
