Big sunglasses are back this summer—here’s how to wear them
With this season’s specs, it’s all about grander spectacles and fitting contrasts

Shelve those skinny frames and sci-fi-inspired specs, and make way for oversized sunglasses. Appearing on the latest shows of Gucci, Tom Ford, Isabel Marant, Louis Vuitton, AMIRI, Dolce&Gabbana, and JW Anderson, among others, bigger specs are making a timely comeback.
But we’re not just talking about any imposing pair. We’re thinking ‘70s-inspired chunky sunglasses, those that not only protect your eyes, but also transport you to a different time and place.

Think of a rustic vacation in the Riviera, where the sun is relentless, and the heat is unforgiving, but your airy blue linen top, cropped white shorts, and minimalist leather sandals keep you cool and fresh—contrasted by blocky frames that hinder others from knowing who you are.

Black is always a solid choice for oversized sunglasses, but summer allows for shades of brown and deep red. The trick here is to play with stark differences, offsetting dark, heavy frames with softer and more easy-going colors, fits, and textures.

The trend might also carry over ‘till next season, pairing well with darker, edgier looks fit for the months after a well-deserved summer vacation. And even with their sheer size, oversized pairs tend to go well with any face shape, so you’ll get your specs’ worth.
