This Watch House Unveiled Its Latest Collection in China
OMEGA’s new Planet Ocean emerges in a setting where architecture, light, and water mirror the watch’s evolving story
A launch framed by water and light
OMEGA marked the global launch of its redesigned Planet Ocean collection with a celebration in Chongqing, China. The Yifang Art Museum, known for its geometric architecture and surrounding water features, served as the venue and created a setting that echoed the marine heritage central to the Seamaster line.
Golden sunlight opened the evening as it reflected across the museum’s pools, casting an orange glow that matched the color signature of the Planet Ocean. Additional lighting later transformed the venue into a vivid interpretation of an underwater landscape.
At the center of the space, a full display of the new Planet Ocean models allowed guests to study the collection closely and understand how OMEGA continues to advance its approach to dive watch innovation.
Faces of the brand
Chinese ambassadors Wei Daxun and Song Weilong were welcomed as guests of honor. Both spoke about their connection to the brand and their admiration for the heritage behind its dive watches.
Wei described the new Planet Ocean as a design that communicates courage and exploration, while Song spoke of his own history growing up by the sea and the role OMEGA played in shaping his interest in diving.
The guest list reflected the regional reach of the brand, with Thai actor Gulf Kanawut and Filipino actors Kyle Echarri and Enchong Dee in attendance. Their participation underscored OMEGA’s expanding influence throughout Asia, as well as the growing cultural visibility of high watchmaking within entertainment communities.
A new chapter for an icon
OMEGA President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann described the updated Planet Ocean as a product of the brand’s innovative spirit. He emphasized that the twentieth anniversary of the model is a chance to redefine an already established icon.
The fourth-generation Planet Ocean introduces a contemporary silhouette while retaining the bold orange color that has distinguished the collection since 2005. Seven versions are now available worldwide, including blue, black, and orange designs paired with either rubber straps or stainless steel bracelets.
The new Planet Ocean is a continuation of OMEGA’s commitment to technical precision, aesthetic clarity, and the ongoing relationship between watchmaking and the sea.
