The candid creator bound for stardom
Model, content creator, and actor Jack Gohr is steadily rising as one of the top Malaysian style savants to follow, known for his laid-back, simple, yet sleek way of dressing. Before diving into the fashion and entertainment industry full-time, Jack used to work as a cabin crew member. However, the call of the spotlight was just too strong for the performing arts major.
There’s an effortless authenticity and charisma that emanates from Jack’s social media presence, whether he’s gracing fashion weeks locally and abroad or sharing everyday candid moments. It’s this balance of polish and spontaneity that has earned him recognition among Malaysian audiences, with several publications citing him as one of the men to watch from the region.
VMAN: How did you arrive at your current profession?
Jack Gohr: I was scouted by my agency from a local television show. It’s been a rollercoaster ride since, and I am loving the excitement and surprises that it brings me.
VMAN: How would you describe your personal style?
JG: I like a simple life; hence, it reflects on my everyday dressing. However, when it comes to work and when I need a little something extra, I’d give in to that. For me, less is more. And always wear clothes that make you happy and comfortable.
VMAN: Who is your style inspiration?
JG: I like how Taiwanese actor Yo Yang dresses. He wears basic pieces, but he makes them look fashionable.
VMAN: What are your favorite fashion brands?
JG: Chanel and YSL. These brands are so versatile. Every season, their campaigns just make me want to wear all the collections that they release—I especially like the gender-neutral ones.
VMAN: How would you describe your industry from where you are from?
JG: We are still learning and developing, in my opinion. There are a lot of things to improve, but I’m happy that it has been going the right path toward becoming a better and freer industry.
VMAN: Do you feel this responsibility to represent your culture to the world through your style or work?
JG: Yes, I do! Especially when I go overseas for work events or trips, I always feel like a ‘national representative’ of Malaysia to ‘compete’ with other countries—but in a good way.
VMAN: What are some creative and style pointers that you think the world should know about Malaysia?
JG: We are rich in culture, be it Malaysia or Southeast Asia. There are many talented and amazing people here that are willing to show their passions and be recognized.
