Check Out How VMAN Southeast Asia Gets Physical in Manila
VMAN Southeast Asia Media Channels Editor Brent Javier stops at nothing to explore how people stay fit and active in Metro Manila
Beyond the gyms, there are a lot of ways to stay active in Manila—from early morning bike rides that foster a sense of community, exercises that feel like play, to boutique fitness studios offering personalized and creative workouts.
VMAN Southeast Asia Media Channels Editor Brent Javier explores these activities on the second episode of City Guide: Getting Physical in Manila, pushing his limits with newfound workouts and chatting with the pros about leading an active lifestyle in the city.
Going beyond his preferred way of exercising—tennis sessions with TennEast Academy, Brent braves the imposing walls of The Bouldering Hive, scaling vertical routes with founder and owner Christoph Bastin.
Emerging as a compelling alternative to traditional workouts, bouldering is a physically demanding, mentally engaging, and deeply social activity that’s as challenging as it is quite reminiscent of childhood play.
Brent also tries the deceptively intense movements of Ultra Lagree, combining cardio, weight, strength, and resistance training. Don’t let the slow and steady movements of the workout fool you—in Brent’s words, it’s one of the hardest exercises he’s done in quite a while.
To cap off his jam-packed day, Brent cools down—literally—within sub-zero waters, testing the limits of his mind and body via a cold plunge, guided by former captain of the Philippines’ national football team, Aly Borromeo. It’s not for the faint-hearted—but it’s a transformative experience that Brent recommends you should try at least once.
We’re just barely scratching the surface here, so stay tuned as we explore more ways to stay active, only here on VMAN Southeast Asia.
