Why Quang Tran’s MAVERIK Studio is Vietnam’s Next Menswear Label to Watch Out For
A former videographer turned fashion designer, Quang Tran is redefining modern Vietnamese fashion through MAVERIK Studio’s sartorial aesthetic and immersive retail experience
From behind the camera to the seams
Quang Tran’s path into fashion design is anything but conventional.
The founder of MAVERIK Studio, one of Vietnam’s emerging contemporary fashion brands, began his career as a videographer before pivoting unexpectedly to fashion design in 2017.
“I studied videography. My background is as a cameraman,” Quang reveals. This unique trajectory has contributed to his distinctive visual approach to fashion, where each collection tells a compelling story.
Initially launched as a personalized brand focused on customization and limited-edition pieces, MAVERIK Studio has since evolved into a full-fledged fashion label that’s catching the attention of style enthusiasts across Southeast Asia. The brand’s aesthetic, much like its founder, embraces an understated sophistication and speaks volumes through minimalist design.
With a core team of just four full-time staff members and various external collaborators, Quang has built a creative hub that continues to push the boundaries of contemporary Vietnamese fashion.
The art of creating experiences
At the heart of MAVERIK Studio lies more than just clothing—it’s an immersive experience designed to engage all the senses. The store itself embodies this philosophy, with curated music, ambient scents, and thoughtful design that make the space feel more like a home than a retail environment.
“I really want everyone who comes to our store to feel comfortable, like they’re in their own home.”
Quang’s Winter 2024 collection is a clear reflection of his evolution as a designer as he showed VMAN SEA ten distinct looks that emphasize minimalism while incorporating premium materials like genuine leather.
Each piece exemplifies his commitment to quality and detail—from meticulously crafted blazers (his personal favorite from the collection) to perfectly worn-in denim pieces. “I draw inspiration from simple things in my daily life, people around me, art, and nature,” he shares.
His designs reflect a well-rounded aesthetic. It ranges from refined denim pieces to sophisticated suiting options.
Quang’s creative process is deeply influenced by his travels, with each journey sparking fresh ideas and new directions for his work. “I love to travel, and after every trip, I gain many ideas for my designs,” he says, which is evident in his collections that manage to feel both distinctly Vietnamese and universally appealing.
Looking ahead, Quang continues to push creative boundaries. Later this month, he will unveil an exciting collaboration with another Vietnamese brand.
While he remains tight-lipped about the identity of his partner, his commitment to expanding MAVERIK Studio’s global reach is clear through the brand’s international shipping options and growing social media presence.
A space that reflects the brand
The space that houses MAVERIK Studio serves as a physical manifestation of the brand’s philosophy. The office area is dedicated to design and creation, while the retail space invites customers to linger and fully experience the brand.
Every detail has been carefully curated, from the minimalist aesthetic to the customer experience. For a designer who started with a camera in hand, Quang has captured something far more significant: a growing reputation as one of Vietnam’s most promising fashion talents.
He is not only creating clothes, but crafting immersive experiences that resonate with a new generation of fashion enthusiasts.
