Inigo Ignites Anew
Stripping away from his last name, the Filipino multi-hyphenate breaks down his creative rebirth while finding his own amplified frequency
The weight of his last name
As the son of a Filipino superstar, rising artist and actor Inigo Pascual had expectations to live up to a legacy. Through creative pivots and international milestones, he has carved out an identity entirely his own.
Despite the weight of his famous last name, Inigo forged his own path through a series of firsts, from the historic success of Dahil Sa’yo, the first Filipino song to top the Philippine Billboard charts, to Ikaw at Ikaw, his latest self-penned single, which marks both a new chapter and a return to his musical roots with Star Music.
“With this new album that I’m working on, I think I actually chose to go back to my old sound,” Inigo shares.
The album’s songwriting process required him to push through creative blocks and trust his instincts.
Despite the anxiety of beginning production without a single finished track, a sudden burst of inspiration led him to write four to five songs in just a matter of days.
“Sometimes as a songwriter you have moments where you don’t have anything to write… I just kept going. I just kept writing songs.”
Growing as an actor
Portraying a character with savant syndrome in The Good Doctor, Inigo felt a deep sense of responsibility. With family members on the autism spectrum, he approached the role with care, determined to deliver a respectful and authentic performance.
“It’s definitely something that I was scared of when I found out that I was doing it. I want to make sure that I do it properly and I don’t disrespect anyone,” Inigo admits.
His confidence as an actor was further shaped by projects ranging from the comedy Rags To Riches to anonymous Hollywood auditions. Auditioning for the American series Monarch without relying on his fanous surname, Inigo proved his talent could command an international room on its own.
Looking back on the hesitation he initially felt, he recalls, “I was like, ‘Why am I going to audition if there are so many other actors in the States?’”
“When you land a role, you know that you deserve it because you actually put in the effort to audition.”
Becoming Inigo
Championing OPM on global stages, from Times Square to 88rising, Inigo continues to advocate for greater international recognition of Filipino music. Offstage, he channels his creativity into art like painting and rug-making, finding new outlets for the many ideas in his head to manifest.
“It’s because I can’t sit still, so I have to be doing something all the time,” he explains.
“I kind of want more of our work to be known globally… [and these hobbies are] a way for me to express my creativity. ”
Guided by his father Piolo Pascual’s enduring advice to remain patient in an industry that rarely slows down, Inigo has remained focused on one goal: to be recognized on his own terms. Beyond the famous surname, he simply wants to be known as Inigo.
Those defining milestones ultimately gave him the confidence that he had earned his place. As he reflects, “Personally, it gave me a sense of having my own identity.”
For Inigo, success isn’t measured by fame alone. It comes from trusting the process, putting in the work, and allowing opportunities to arrive in their own time.
“Whatever you achieve, it’s because you waited for it and you deserve it.”
