Y2K Style is in its Sports Season
The sporty Y2K wave has finally arrived in full force. What began as subtle nods—trucker hats here, baggy jeans there—have transformed into a full-on revival of the early 2000s athletic aesthetic
Varsity blues
We all know this guy—the resident jock, making a commanding entrance with his baseball shirt, a basketball jersey worn with pride, a snapback, and some high-cut kicks. Music player in hand, he walks through the halls of the school with a cool vibe.
This guy, like Y2K, is back in style, and you don’t have to sign up for tryouts to cop his look.
Jackets and jocks
Classic athletic jackets, with their vibrant colors and stripes, are reimagined through layering and form. A tailored coat elevates a sporty fit; a cropped jacket stays true to Y2K style while exuding a contemporary vibe.
Or, if you have the confidence to go for it, just forego the jackets altogether.
Layering with nostalgia
Give your statement shirts and jerseys some edge by layering them over a sweater—or, as a nice contrast, put on a leather jacket over an otherwise more youthful look.
Make sure to keep the essential Y2K elements, still: a cropped shirt here, a beanie there, low-rise baggy pants, or your comfy, trusty pair of denim shorts.
