Malaysia and Canada Take Top Titles at Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global 2026
Twenty-three candidates from fifteen countries gathered at Araneta Coliseum as Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global 2026 celebrated culture, style, and global Chinese representation
A global stage of color and anticipation
The Smart Araneta Coliseum was alive with color and anticipation as 23 candidates representing 15 countries took the stage for Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global 2026.
Co-hosted by Marc Nelson, Janeena Chan, Taiwan’s Kevin Tai, and pageant director Nicole Cordoves, the second edition of the pageant presented a celebration of leadership and global Chinese identity.
This year marked a significant expansion from nine participating nations in the inaugural edition. MMCG 2026 highlighted the vibrancy of Chinatowns worldwide, from Manila’s historic Binondo to communities across North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
Pageantry with a purpose
Beyond the competition, the pageant launched the Christelle Chow Tan Legacy for Gastric Care and Support, in partnership with Sagip Buhay Medical Foundation and Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
Candidates showcased their poise and style through Resorts Wear and Formal Wear segments. The formal wear collection featured the work of Chinese-Filipino designers Vee Tan and Edwin Tan. It was a collection that balanced visual impact with elegance and highlighted the pageant’s focus on identity and cultural pride.
Live performances added to the night’s energy, including a set by Filipino music icon Jose Mari Chan. Judges Laurenti Dyogi and Nicole Borromeo observed candidates closely, evaluating not only style and presentation but also confidence and commitment to authentic representation.
Winners and cultural ambassadors
At the end of the evening, Malaysia’s Ang Wei Yang was named Mr. Chinatown Global 2026, leading the male category for the second consecutive year. Canada’s Tyra Rosnuk was crowned Ms. Chinatown Global 2026.
Switzerland’s Oliver Liu Xu and Thailand’s Khaohom Passawalee were named 1st Runners-Up, while Canada’s Yi Fang Gao and Malaysia’s Belle Nanphasorn were 2nd Runners-Up.
Both grand winners spoke about their role as cultural ambassadors. Ang Wei Yang said that the platform was an opportunity to bridge differences among Chinese communities worldwide.
“There are different Chinese cultures in different places around the world. This platform is a way to make everyone understand and appreciate one another.”
Tyra Rosnuk emphasized filial piety as a guiding value:
“As a big family girl, I love my family dearly. Elders teach us how to listen and lead. Sharing this value with the world can help guide future generations to lead with respect and care.”
CHiNOY TV and Oishi presented the event, while Vee Tan and Edwin Tan contributed to the formal wear segment. Their work ensured that every outfit reflected culture and global Chinese pride.
With its second year at the Big Dome, Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global continues to show that pageantry can combine elegance with advocacy. The coronation was broadcast on February 22 at 10:30 AM via the Kapamilya Channel and ALLTV (Channel 2).
