Pada tahun 1965, sebuah perusahaan Jepang meluncurkan Manpo-kei, yang diterjemahkan menjadi \u201cmeteran 10.000 langkah\u201d. Nama tersebut dipilih karena karakter untuk angka 10.000 terlihat seperti orang yang sedang berjalan, bukan karena adanya studi klinis.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Selama beberapa dekade, angka sembarang ini menjadi standar emas untuk pelacak kebugaran dan aplikasi kesehatan di seluruh dunia. Karena merupakan angka bulat yang menarik, angka ini mudah diadopsi oleh lembaga kesehatan masyarakat yang mencari cara sederhana untuk mendorong pergerakan. Hal ini memberikan target yang jelas dan terukur bagi populasi yang kurang aktif bergerak.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Namun, terpaku secara ketat pada angka ini dapat mematahkan semangat bagi banyak orang. Jika seseorang merasa harus mencapai 10.000 langkah atau tidak sama sekali, mereka mungkin akan melewatkan jalan kaki yang lebih pendek dan lebih mudah dikelola. Penelitian yang diterbitkan dalam <em>JAMA Internal Medicine<\/em> menemukan bahwa wanita lanjut usia mengalami penurunan angka kematian yang signifikan hanya dengan 4.400 langkah. Manfaatnya terus meningkat sebelum akhirnya mendatar di sekitar 7.500 langkah.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Bagi kebanyakan orang, peningkatan kesehatan terbesar terjadi saat beralih dari gaya hidup yang kurang aktif ke gaya hidup yang cukup aktif. Menambahkan bahkan 2.000 langkah ke basis harian yang rendah dapat meningkatkan kesehatan kardiovaskular secara signifikan. Anda tidak perlu mencapai angka lima digit untuk melihat dampak besar pada kesejahteraan Anda.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Selain itu, intensitas dari langkah-langkah tersebut memainkan peran krusial dalam kebugaran.
