Bvlgari and Laurent Grasso’s Cloud-Inspired Watch
Bvlgari’s latest Octo Finissimo captures an iridescent cloud in perpetual suspension, transforming a fleeting natural phenomenon into a timeless companion for your wrist
The celestial vision
In a notable collaboration between horology and fine art, Bvlgari has partnered with French artist Laurent Grasso to create a distinctive iteration of their Octo Finissimo timepiece. The watch, limited to 200 pieces, features a midnight blue finish and an iridescent cloud formation on its dial.
The design centers on a natural phenomenon that Laurent finds particularly compelling: iridescent clouds, where suspended particles and frozen water droplets create prismatic effects. This atmospheric event is recreated on the watch dial through screen-printing with metallic pigments, which permanently captures an ephemeral natural occurrence.
Technical specifications remain true to the Octo Finissimo’s established standards. The watch houses the BVL 138 automatic movement, measuring just 2.23mm in thickness, while the sandblasted titanium case stands at 5.0mm. The movement features traditional decorative elements including Côtes de Genève, chamfering, and perlage finishing, with a 60-hour power reserve.
Design details
The watch’s construction incorporates practical elements alongside its artistic features. The case measures 40mm in diameter and offers water resistance to 30 meters. A DLC titanium crown with ceramic insert provides durability, while the integrated titanium bracelet maintains the piece’s monochromatic blue theme.
Laurent, known for exploring unseen phenomena through various artistic mediums over the past two decades, has signed each case back alongside a cloud motif. The collaboration builds on the Octo Finissimo’s design foundation, which draws inspiration from the octagonal ceilings of Rome’s Basilica of Maxentius.
The timepiece comes housed in a blue presentation case, reflecting the watch’s distinctive color scheme and marking this intersection of functional timekeeping and contemporary artistic expression.
